SHEPHERD'S PIE





2 Tablespoons vegetable shortening

1 medium onion, chopped

1 clove minced garlic

1/2 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup chopped carrots

2 pounds ground beef

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

2 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

28 0z. ketchup

2 cans corn

4 cups mashed potatoes

2 cups grated cheese


*Preheat oven to 350 degrees
*Melt shortening in a large skillet over medium heat.
*Add onions, garlic, celery, and carrots. Saute until onions are golden.
*Add ground beef. Stir and cook until meat is browned.
* Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup.
* Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Drain excess fat.
*Layer 9x13 pan with meat sauce, corn and mashed potatoes
*Sprinkle grated cheese on top
*Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until bubbly
*Makes 8 servings
